What is it with people and their Twitter bios?!?!

The number of people that profess to be experts or - even worse - 'gurus', is beyond me.

What are they thinking? Do they think it just sounds impressive?!

Anyway, here's your opportunity - if you're in agreement - to have a rant on the subject!

I'm doing some work on Twitter today and here are two other equally pointless "titles" that I've come across.

Travel activist
Web design agentur

I think the general rule is that if a bunch of other people call you a guru, you may well be. However, if you call yourself a guru, it's quite probable that you're just a twat.

Phil, ROFL!!! I couldn't agree more - except for the fact that even if other people call you a guru it doesn't mean you really are. More likely it means that you've hoodwinked them somehow into believing it.

Yep, I'm with Phil and Kay on this one. Laughing

@Paul - were the "agentur" people German by any chance? In which case it's simply their word for "agency". Even so, if they were marketing in English you'd have thought they could have got something as basic as that right - and if they weren't German then that's just horribly pseud.

LOL... nice comments.

And that's a possibility, I guess, Dave... although from memory everything else in the bio was in English.

I'm not sure if I'm being really grumpy with this one but I'm getting a little tired of the number of people who put that they "love life". Is it me or does this just smack of insecurity? Don't get me wrong... I enjoy life too, but I don't feel the need to broadcast the fact. You just get on with enjoying it, don't you?!

Also, the number of "life coaches" out there is starting to get my goat...!

There. I'm feeling a little better now I've got that off my chest. Laughing

Brilliant. Did you know that MyGoat dot com is for sale? Apply within.

(I had a nice little blog on there and then Dave drowned it in some kind of incomprehensible geek-speak.)

Oh yes, I love life and I'm really passionate about what I do.

Anecdote:

I 'met' a life coach online and she wanted some freebie clients to practise on. I said, OK, why not? I like to help people. After a couple of weeks of giving me life coaching and trying to figure out my somewhat unusual life, she wrote to say that she'd decided not to become a life coach after all. I don't think it was anything to do with me. Probably just a coincidence.

We sooooo need a +1 button on these posts as I was looking for it when I read Phil B's first post! Smile

Will be on the lookout for any of the above however as this might be the social networking buzzword bingo. Btw, what the heck is a Maven?

Latest find is a "Torism marketing expert"

You'd think that if he was an expert in the field, he'd at least know how to spell it. Wink

I had an SEO 'expert' email me yesterday talking about the ways in which I could get better rankings for my website. Unfortunately he was looking at my weblog at the time!

Needless to say - I gave him a short, abrupt but accurate lesson, together with a less helpful and anatomically impossible suggestion of what to do with his service.
