Tricky one this! If someone really has busted a gut to get where they are then I don't begrudge them their big fat pay cheque - but I do object to those as thick as mince that have somehow climbed the ladder (usually because of who they know not what they know) creaming their big wedge off the top. _________________ After Dinner Speaker | Buy Gold Bullion | Storage |

those at the top end like Bill Gates then I'd not look to tax them more but expect them to use some of their wealth to be ploughed back into the economy or through charitable routes
those who've simply inherited wealth then yesr they should be taxed more
those who've worked hard to achieve wealth like Alan Sugar or Richard Branson then no
the main target has to be those who earn millions but pay a lower % rate of tax than you or I _________________ e-FM network | Get Above The Fold | Physiobench |

But where/how do you draw the line between the two? What about the Richard Bransons of this world who have maybe been successful but perhaps only achieved their success thanks to some inherited wealth that got them started.
As soon as you start taxing people differently, depending on the means by which they have acquired their wealth, I think you're making it very difficult for yourself. _________________ UK Hotels - UK Selfcatering

It's frankly none of our business. I don't really understand where people get off thinking they can meddle in the lives of others. Whether you feel someone has earnt their salary or not is irrelevant, so long as the person paying them it is happy with the value they're receiving then that's all that matters.
As for tax, well the government has even less right to meddle in it than you or I do. They've done nothing to earn that tax and it baffles me how we can call ourselves a free society when we are forced by law to hand over large chunks of our money, regardless of whether we are actually buying a service with that money. _________________ My social media blog |

I don't think anyone here is necessarily questioning whether someone warrants a particular salary or not. However, since you raise the issue, I think Stephen Hester's substantial bonuses can legitimately be called into question when you consider that RBS is mostly owned by the taxpayer. _________________ UK Hotels - UK Selfcatering

Why though? What makes a tax payer think they know more about what is a suitable salary for such a position than the people that set it? _________________ My social media blog |

I'm not saying they know more about what is a suitable salary. I do, though, think that they have a right to question it if the money is, in effect, coming from their own pockets. _________________ UK Hotels - UK Selfcatering
