I have a video file (think it can be .avi or .mpg) and would like to overlay some text on it, and have different text fade in and out at certain times.

I guess this is fairly straightforward as you see countless YouTube vids with that kind of thing on them, but I haven't the first idea where to start.

Please can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Windows movie maker? Should be free on all Windows machines.

Thanks, Adi... I'll take a look. I remember trying something from Ulead years ago, but it was a bit of a hefty program for what I need to do...

You can also use Adobe After Effects or Sony Vegas if you want something more complex like effects and stuff.

Try TextSmith's Camtasia, Paul. Easy to use, great results. Been using it for years now.

Have you a vested interest in the product?

Only it's strange that this is your first and only post... the discussion originates from 2009... and you've ignored the bit that says "if you're new, post here first!".

Forgive me for being sceptical.
