Hello everyone,

I currently own a huge YP database, developed in 2003 with over 13 mil us companies registered in it. I had it for a while now but I don't have any use for it as of today.

I tried selling it in various places (forums, eBay etc) but had no luck. I know the price is a bit high(about $7000), but it's a perfect start for a payed directory (that was the reason I purchased it a year ago, but now I don't have the time to deal with it)

Anyone, any idea where and how should I sell it?

Greately appreciated.

You could always catergorize it and sell it in chunks across the web. I've seen a few companies doing that.

What does "YP" mean as in "YP Database"?

I like the idea of breaking it into chunks. If you can break it up by industry sector you could sell it to companies who target those sectors.

You could also consider selling it by contacting call centre or direct marketing companies directly.

I'd also suggest that you sell it quickly. Data gets old very quickly.

One thing to watch is the Data Protection Act if you're in the UK or the equivillent if your elsewhere and make sure the database complies with that otherwise most companies won't be interested.

If you're going to sell it to something like a direct marketting company you might also want to run it through one of these address filtering companies that will remove people who've registered not to receive junk mail, then it might be worth more.

Actually, if it contains all the address details and can be categorised you might be able to sell it to a direct marketting company if you stress that this is a one off fee rather than a licencing fee.

Are the companies worldwide or country specific and do you know how old the original data is as that'll affect the price.

If you break it up into chunks it could fetch more $$. I agree with everyone on that.

YP = yellow pages?

Does this list include email addresses and SIC codes with the 13 million businesses?

If not, then it sounds like you're selling a copy of a $99 CD...

there are many ways to sell your leads list. but first, you have to categorize the database according to various criteria including location, industries and profession. You can't just sell it right away without classifying the business data. Then, set a reasonable price tag. I bet $7000 is too high. Learn pricing from your competitors. Next, you can generate sales leads through direct response tools such as email marketing and telemarketing.

There are a lot of possibilities. Choose what suits you.

Thanks,

Right, it's not just about the number of contacts listed. Some companies may no longer be interested because they already have it..or the contacts might have been contacted several times. If you could give us a bit information then maybe we could assist your further with ideas.

Hi,

There are quite a few companies that specialise in data bases. Where I am there is a company directly opposite my building which does exactly this. If I was in your shoes I'd make an appointment and present the infortmation in the best way possible.
