Id like to create icon-ish buttons. How should I approach this?

- Should I download pictures, transform them using Photoshop and make them looking like icons?

- Should pictures be photographs or drawings?

- Should I draw them from scratch?

??? Ive never really created these things in the past, so I dont know exactly how I can approach this. Id greatly appreciate your input on this.

I do mine from scratch... then you can get everything exactly as you want it. Right shape... right colour etc. Have recently done some that look like bubbles - very effective.

Are you good at drawing ...?

See, I have to confess. I'm not that good at drawing. So, ... I was actually trying to go through a route that I do not have to draw by myself ...

Give me a pencil... and I'll produve something quite nice. I can't do it with a mouse though. But there's so many preset shapes in these desgin programs that you can use, mix, adapt, skew etc... that it can still be done.

Or.... find a shape you like on the internet. Darken it to black in your design program... and then colour it as you would like. Add some drop shadow, maybe a bevel... and you're sorted.

I suggest you to draw the pictures from scratch which helps you to take the pictures of your choice. You can use your favorite colour, background and logo.

'from scratch' is drawing something on paper first.
