Quote: | London, February 16 (ANI): A leading scientific "futurologist" envisions that the speed at which technological advancements are taking place may lead computer power to be on a par with the intelligence of human brains in the next two decades.
American computer guru Ray Kurzweil reckons that there will be 32 times more technical progress during the next half century than there was in the entire 20th century.
One of such outcomes may be artificial intelligence matching human intellect the 2020s, he says.
While addressing the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Boston, he said that machines would rapidly overtake humans in their intellectual abilities, and would soon be able to solve some of the most intractable problems of the 21st century.

Do you believe it? I'm kind of skeptical. _________________ Online Education :: Training Forum

I've read a few Kurzweil books and think it very possible. Computers are getting both faster and smaller at an exponential rate. If the trend continues then computers will become smarter than humans before long.
What's also interesting is that growing understanding of how our brain (and body) works, coupled with the minutarisation provided by atomic computing and nanotech would offer up huge medical possibilities. _________________ My social media blog |

But smarter in what sense?
Ok, they're good at board games like chess. They're also good at video games. After all, at least today, they're only good at things that are governed by strict rules ...(?) _________________ Online Education :: Training Forum

Things like neural networks will probably help with that as they essentially allow the computer to learn of its own accord. You start things off with a basic set of rules and it will keep going until it finds the best solution. Things like that are an attempt to mimic the human brain, and with greater understanding of how the brain functions it seems sensible for computing to become more atuned with human thought over time. _________________ My social media blog |
