It's been suggested to me that trying to do an interview on a live radio show using a borrowed mobile phone isn't the best way to go about things,

Apparently I should have... ach, I don't understand a lot of it. So, tell me, I need headphones and I need what else to level the playing field.

Have to admit I'm clueless on this one. Razz

If you were going to be interviewed on the radio what would you consider to be the necessary equipment?

I suppose the 'ideal' would be to be in the studio...

Aside from that, I haven't a clue. Embarassed

I believe an ISDN line is best.

As paul said, this should be done in a studio.

But also you can do it via a Internet Connection and a communication software (like Skype for example). Also there are a lot of microphones out there with noise reduction and many cute features at low costs, and with a fine tune from your soundcard software, it should work fine too.
