Three-fourths of IT professionals in the U.K. say they believe the industry discriminates against those older than 50, a survey by Greythorn found. In IT, age and experience are "not necessarily perceived as an asset," says Paul Winchester, managing director of Greythorn, because employers may falsely believe only younger workers can adapt quickly to new technologies.

Lots of industries have discriminated against 'older' workers for a long time. My cousin is highly qualified, intelligent, and experienced but he couldn't get a decent job about a decade ago because he was over 40. Shocked

When I got to 40, I 'retired' as I knew I'd never get a job again so I just do my own stuff now. This age discrimination is a bit silly but it does exist. Sometimes experience can be more useful. If I get thrown into some unexpected situation I just deal with it, if I was younger I might be sending "help me!" emails every five minutes. I know which of the two a busy boss would prefer. Twisted Evil
