Hi all.....I run two websites (yeah I use the same template for both...sheer laziness), I get visitors on both....around a 100 per day on each. My sites do sell, so you're wondering....why are you complaining? I just want to grow larger, get 100000 of visitors not just a mere hundred. My dream is to run a set of sites and quit my job. Do you think that it is actually possible for people to live off websites? If yes please give me your success stories....I am really interested!

100,000 visitors a day - now thats serious traffic! Smile

I'd imagine to get to those sorts of levels you've either got to hit on something unbelieveable that no one else has thought of, but everyone wants (and isn't easily copied) or spend a lot of money on advertising.

I suppose to actually live off a site, you need to build it along the traditional lines of business starting with identifying a market, exploiting that market, working damn hard to make sure people know about you and of course identifying your revenue stream, eg: Adsense.

Oh and remember, as with stocks & shares, Adsense revenue may go down as well as up (or dry up altogether).

Btw, is your second site in your sig down currently? Getting a can't find server message.

I went to a get together of website owners (affiliates, not merchants) over the summer and many arrived in luxury cars costing upwards of 50k. Can you make a good living from websites? Very Happy

Yes, and that's what affiliate marketing is about essentially.

The amount of money is certainly an issue, but another very important thing is stability.

Certainly - but I think one can do so much more once you free up your time. Beats slaving for a boss, and you can be more creative when you're not stressed 24/7 trying to build a business from scratch to keep the wolves at bay!
You can take more risks when your life doesn't depend on it! Wink

There is this funny correlation, isn't there?

Yeah, it does seem a bit odd. Not the best time to be making decisions when you're stressed out of your mind, to put it one way.

This is why you want to smoke, shoot out and drink before you make an important decision in life.

Now you're getting the hang of it! Laughing
Actually, even though it's New Year's eve, I'm just being boring tonight and sitting here posting while listening to some music. Had enough years doin' it to the max! I'm all chilled out these days... laid-back is the way to go! Yeah! Cool

I have a few sites and operate them full time. This is my only job and I have not been working for someone else for over 6 months. I have a unit that is open to the public but is rather out of the way so visitors are very minimal but probably just say pay for the rent - everything is is made online.

It is one of my goals to create many niche sites that produce an income from advertising (adsense, monthly ads, etc) and affiliate products.

I've studied the art of building niche sites that rank well in search engines. It's a combination of many things including site design, relevant and updated stie content, and incoming links.
There are lots of ways to accomplish these things. Usually it takes a lot of time but there are a few shortcuts.

As far as income, I've had the most success with Adsense.

You can make a nice income building "junk" sites where the main goal for visitors is to have them click on an adsense ad and I have done that successfully. I am moving on to building "sticky" sites where users will stay and read your content. This way you can make more money off of affiliate products.
