Hello everyone

This was suggested on the travel forum just recently, and I thought we should apply it to all the aardvark message boards. We have members from all over here... and it would be nice to learn more about everyone.

Please take this opportunity to say hello to the rest of us. Wave

What makes our community tick? We are all interested in business (or you wouldn't have found this place) - tell us what your business interests are, and then update your profile so the rest of the members can know a little about you, without asking.

Welcome if you're new. Hello again if you've been here a while. Whichever it is, please reply to this and get involved.

Regards,

Aaron

Ok lets give this a go.

Hi all my name is Tom and I'm from the UK.

I am owner of www.inneedofajob.co.uk. this has now been running for just over a month now and is doing really well for just being around over a month.

In Need Of A Job is a job advertising board that receives feeds from many multiposting job boards, we provide a free CV review (UK only) and CV writing service we also provide free interview advice.

I have 3 more projects in the pipeline so watch this space.

Hello Tom, and welcome to the forums... Wave (even though you've been here a while already).

Your job site sounds interesting. I am curious as to where your revenue comes from - is from associated services such as CV writing assistance, or do you get a commission if you help with a placement?

Anyway, good to see you here, and hope you stick around.

Best wishes

Aaron

It comes from a number of different sources.

I charge recruiters to advertise a job vacancy on my site for a 28 day period this is the main source of revenue, also from advertising banners to either the recuiters site or to their list of jobs on the site. I also get commision from The CV writing service that I work alongside with.

I suppose I really ought to post here also.

I'm Paul and run a company called The Dedicated Partnership which, co-incidentally, also happens to be the company that is behind all three Aardvark sites. Wink

We are a web design and internet promotion company that primarily specialises in websites for the travel industry (hence the reason for Aardvark Travel having a thriving community, but Aardvark Business and Aardvark Sport still currently being in fledgling status - our expertise is really in getting traffic to tourism sites). The aardvark sites are more a 'labour of love' at this point in time but are continuing to grow and could well become the main part of our business in future years.

We have been trading for just over 10 years now (gosh, how time has flown!) with the first three years having been just me working part time, before the internet really got going. I live and work in Kendal on the edge of the Lake District National Park, Cumbria (UK) and am recently married, with family on the way. My other interests include travel (no surprises there), football (soccer to anyone in the US), photography, food (always goes down well), chess when I have the time and, of course, the internet.

I am Barry Welford and I am an Internet marketing coach. I usually work as part of my client's management team in helping define Internet marketing strategy and then making it happen. I often act as the project manager or channel to the website designer. In developing strategy, one of the tools I think important is customer-centric SWOT analysis. You can find many of my ideas in my Monthly Newsletters on Internet Marketing Strategy. My associates think I give away too many secrets, but I think it's not what you do but the way that you do it.

I was born in West Hartlepool, County Durham, England, the home of the monkey hangers and Andy Capp. I was a keen outdoorsman and spent a great deal of time hiking throughout Northern England.

I came to Montreal, Canada, over 30 years ago, which has been a sometimes too exciting place to be. Currently the city seems to be on a very positive roll and it's always been a great place to live. My wife, Viv, and I love nature and the outdoors and watching birds when we can find the time. We have four grown-up kids and a very intelligent Golden Retriever called Sherri. Sherri is into thought transference and some of my best ideas come from her ... Very Happy

Hello everyone, I look forward to chatting and sharing with you all.

My name is James Mann. I am retired and have been for 3 years now. How time flies
when you're having fun.

My wife hardly sees me now that I am home all the time. Very Happy I have my little office right
between the kitchen, the bathroom and the living room. Who could ask for more.

I was a computer instructor for 16 years before I retired, but the instruction didn't end
there. Now I live online and do my best to help Newbies learn as fast as they can. Laughing

I love web design and spend most of my day creating web pages for customers and
just having fun.

I live on the east coast of Canada, where it is less than an hour to many great fishing
spots, so you know what I do in the summer. A couple of friends, float tubes, fishing
rods and water, what a way to spend 5 or 6 months of the year.

I have been married to the same girl (Jenny) for 21 years and we have an 18 year old
son. He is just like me so I have had my hands full since he was about 12. Shocked

Jenny loves what she does and doesn't plan on retiring until they kick her out. Until then
we will continue to live here, but once Jenny finally retires we will travel and see all
the places we never had time or money to see.

Life is short in the big scheme of things so don't waste it. Enjoy what you do or find
something else.

Hi,

My name is Chris Nielsen, and I own a small company that does Internet consulting and specalized in Search Engine Optimization. I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota USA and it's cold here now...!

I have to respond to Barry's post where hs says that some thinks he gives too much away... that I think your approach is one of the most powerful ones in marketing. For years we have been telling people exactly how we do SEO, even down to the details and in letting them use our extensive hand submission list. We only have one small "secret" that involves the submissions, but everything else is fair game and already available if you look for it.

Giving free advice in forums like this and sharing what you know helps others that are not going to be able to afford your services or just don't want to pay. But it also let's people judge the extent of your knowledge. They get a chance to know the kind of person you are and that will let them trust you. If you find someone you can trust, you are much more likely to do business with them. This is important, because so many site owners have no personal information, no photos of the office or staff, and it makes it harder to trust them if you only have a limited amount of information.

Sorry... anyway, we help small and medium busineses have better web sites and get more qualified traffic to their sites. We don't use ranking or positioning like many of our competitors, but gauge the project results by the site's web traffic reports. Our methods also do not require those expensive monthly "updates". Look for this to be a SEO trend for smaller business that just want a fair share of the traffic at resonable cost.

We have a couple of personal projects, www.Consultant-Directory.com is a free directory for experts, consultant, and professionals to get exposure. Yes, our competitors can list themselves there...

One thing we do that you can see by our submission list is to encourage all of the smaller search engines and directories. We can remember when Google was just two college kids with a stupid domain name and interesting search engine. Search engines and directories are the other site of the coin a SEO is on. To help all of them is to help ourselves. To this end, we have started construction of http://www.seoby.org which is built around the idea for a new meta tag that will help search engine operators and SEOs as well. We expect to make formal announcements in the coming year...

A board dedicated to business? OK. I'll give it a whirl.

Hi Aaron, Barry & Chris!

I'm Bernard Ertl. I'm part owner of InterPlan Systems Inc. a company offering project planning and management software and consulting solutions.

I wear many hats around this office including:
  • a growing SEO/SEM hat for the last half year or so
  • sales/marketing
  • partnering relationship management
  • product (software) development
  • technical support
  • on site consulting
  • etc.

I'm fairly active on the internet in spite of my heavy workload. I find that the returns on my investment in time in cyberspace are definitely justifiable.

Chris, James and Bernard... welcome to you all. Wave

Great to see you have all three aardvark sites in your manual submission list, Chris!

Hope you all enjoy your time here, and I'm sure I speak for everyone in saying we look forward to sharing words of wisdom in the months and years to come.

Kind regards

Aaron

Hello, I am Darren Cronian owner of Worldwide Holiday Homes.

Worldwide Holiday homes was established in February 2002 and is a portal where you can book holiday accommodation direct with the owners. All of our accommodation is privatly owned, so the owners have a great deal of knowledge about the home and it's location.

We also offer advertising solutions to holiday home owners to our directory of accommodation in the form of a quality advertisement and booking system.

If you require any assistance on the following feel free to PM or email me.

* SEO guidance
* Marketing your website and business online
* Setting up a small UK business

I'd also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy christmas and new year.

Darren

Hi all!

I'm Brian - I followed Aaron through from another forum.

Normally I dabbled in SEO as a hobby, but found a massive hole in the local market - too many companies offering "search engine submission" and no one offering real internet marketing solutions. So I've now gone self-employed, and made my first sale today - just a web design and build, with basic compliant/SEO to start off.

I'm actually an aspiring novelist - I got into internet marketing as a way of promoting my internet presence for future literary agents, and sort of got varried away. Smile

Hm...I'm no goo at intros, but there you are.

Seemed a perfectly good into to me, Brian. Welcome aboard once more! Wave

And congratulations with your first sale. Are you marketing yourself solely online, or are you doing offline advertising also?

Hello, and thank you for the welcome.
My wife and I started working from home two years ago and I love it.
This got me out the cold. I was a block layer by trade and now I am warm all day instead of half froze to death.
I found your message board through the MOM101 message board.
I have an online golf course. You can play for free if you like. www.goldenfairwayfx.com/playnow
This is keeping me sorta busy and enjoying the game also.
Where else can you get paid to play 3D Online Golf?

Just surfing and trying to network and utilize other offers of services.

Hello Charles... gosh, you're all flooding in today. Does that golf game provide you with a revenue if you introduce paying members? How does it work exactly?
