Here is a good link for some info. http://the-drop-ship-guide.com/
Also I found some responses like this:
With dropship you will have customer service issues, including returns, to deal with. You have to have credit card processing set up to accept orders, then process the order with your dropshipper, paying them from your account or credit card, then waiting to collect the funds from your credit card processor.
You will have to deal with fraudulent orders as well. You need to be sure you charge enough to cover your expenses, which include a lot more than just the wholesale cost of the product.
------------
As was mentioned, you have to handle processing of credit cards and order when you drop ship. Using affiliate programs, you do not. If you sell the right stuff via drop shipping, you can get a lot of repeat sales. Repeat sales is not extremely common in the affiliate business (but they do exist).
Drop Shipping requires more setup... you generally need shopping carts, credit card processing software, good communication lines with your customers AND with the warehouse your shipping from... _________________ Group Net Business Forum! |

There can be a problem drop shipping especially if you are selling off of ebay. With ebay
you must have the merchandise available to ship, because your customers are bidding on
merchandise that you have right now available for immediate shipment. That means you
have to be sure that your drop shipper has the product to ship immediately. What it your
drop shipper just sold out of the item you are auctioning off. I think you could run into
some problems here.

Hi hlcl,
Many companies (especially the companies that send out those mailorder catalogs) well, about 90% of those companies dropship. I don't see it being to bad to at least give it a try, many people will eventually want to give it a shot (run a dropshipping business). As with *ANY* business, you will always win & lose, However, How much you win or lose will depend on how the operation is run. As far as being able to trust the 'dropshipping' company, I believe that if you can get a delimited datafile from them, listing all there products, and they show alot of products on there website, chances are, they are NOT out to just" Take you out to luch", I think they believe they mean business...Who would want to go through all the time and headaches to get the site up and running, and only say that they are a dropshipping company, and not make a darn thing off it? I hope I wasn't too harsh on my words, however...I hope one day dropshipping will be the new way that the 'standard' business (store/warehouse) get's it advertising done (for their selling needs), and the end computer user, like myself make money by using my / their computer skills to create the website...Cool way of bringing it altogether, huh?

Hi,
It was just meant as a word of caution. I know there are legitimate businesses out there,
Who will really be up front with you and have been around a long time. But then there are
those fly by nights who are just trying to keep their business afloat.
Drop Shipping is a great way of doing business, keeping costs down, don't have to worry
about shipping the merchandise etc.
BEST OF LUCK!

Hi Cindy,
I understand that there are people who run these 'fly by night' businesses, wishing for the overnight gold mine, but, then again, there are the few dropshippers that will do the job, and bring out more business...
I was just out at my local Hardware store today, (they do ups shipping) and I happen to be talking to the owner, (he knows me from me shipping out alot of packages in the past with my website, and I talked to him about my site, and what I was getting into, and he mentioned that he had lots of old inventory, looking to get rid of, and maybe I might get lucky and do the website job , and he will ship. That could be a huge bonus for me. I hope I am passing along ideas for other companies, as I see this kind of idea really becoming **HUGE** for both the distributor, and the website developer.

Hi Brian,
Hey that's a great idea.! You already know each other and are comfortable talking about business ideas and websites. Having you drop shipping his old inventory would be great for both of you. Good Luck!

I just have this gut feeling about dropshipping, MLM and affiliate sales in general...My own wholesale jewelry business is a rebellion against it. I think you're always going to fare better if you buy your wholesale product outright. Otherwise you're just selling for inflated prices and the pirmary benefit always goes to the company whose products you're pimping, for the little percenatage scrap commission thrown your way....They eat the meat, you gnaw the bone. Just my $0.02 worth.
Aargh. Sorry if I sound cynical. Please do prove me wrong.
One exception might be high-ticket items. Must admit I've always been intrigued by this company called Multi-Pure. They sell water filters. _________________ http://www.silversource.com/

Hi All,
Chris Malta has been online for very long time and is the best drop shipping expert around. Just my opinion of course!
His website is at http://www.mydssd.com/wwb/ and he also offers a free ebook on getting started in drop shipping, the scams to be carefull off, good product s to sell, etc.
Cheers, Chris

I've been involved in dropshipping for some time now. I like to think I'm doing OK. It certainly tops up my wages nicely.

Dropshipping can be quite profitable - if you do your background research! Look what products are selling well on the online auction sites, and choose carefully before you make your mind up.
Thats my advice anyhow!
<affiliate link removed> - this is a good choice. PS2 games always sell well on ebay.
Also - check out http://www.dropship.dropshipping.org.uk/ for a list of 130+ dropshippers. |
